The American Board of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery appointed Ronald Kuppersmith, MD, MBA, as Associate Executive Director for Assessments in a September 17 announcement.
The board says Kuppersmith will be responsible for developing its written examinations for initial and continuing certification. It identifies him as a former president of ABOHNS, the American Academy of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery, and the Texas Association of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery.
Kuppersmith is scheduled to begin October 5. ABOHNS says he will work closely with current assessment leader Dr. Steve Telian until Telian’s planned retirement on June 30, 2027.
The announcement describes an appointment and a leadership transition. It does not announce a change to exam format or certification requirements.
The role sits upstream of both initial and continuing certification. Candidates and training programs should distinguish this personnel transition from any future, separately announced change to exam blueprints or requirements.
