Cochlear announced FDA clearance of the Osia 3 Sound Processor on July 13. The rechargeable external processor is part of its bone conduction hearing system. The company’s announcement targeted early-fall availability in the United States.

The processor adds a portable charging case and expanded connectivity. Cochlear also described wireless fitting, data logging and Remote Care compatibility in Osia Fitting Software 3. Remote adjustments require an enrolled clinic and suitable patients, as determined by clinical judgment.

Eligible existing Osia recipients can upgrade, according to the company, with processor versions differing in implant magnet compatibility. Some Bluetooth LE Audio features require a firmware update, while Auracast depends on adoption by other devices and venues. The announcement’s availability target is not confirmation of a completed launch.
